Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal and his Egyptian counterpart Amr Moussa insisted the issue of Jerusalem was not negotiable, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported Wednesday.

"The issue of Jerusalem is a non-negotiable Arab and Islamic cause," the ministers said in a statement after co-chairing a session of the two countries' joint commission late Tuesday, said the agency.

Moussa arrived in Riyadh Tuesday night for a one-day visit during which he held talks with Saudi officials on expanding bilateral and regional issues.

SPA added that both ministers expressed their hope that the recent Arab contacts would lead to peace settlement between Israel and the Palestinians.

They called on the international community to exert more efforts for pressing on the Israeli side to comply with the UN resolutions.

In the meantime, the two ministers co-chaired the 10th session of the joint commission, and agreed to expand the investment volume in Egypt to about $ 110 millions which would fund more than 500 projects, said SPA.

The Saudi FM, according to the agency, highlighted the continuous growth in bilateral relation, and said the number of Saudi tourists who visited Egypt in 2000 exceeded hundreds of thousands of people.

He also called for the private sector to play a larger role in increasing bilateral trade between the two countries, which he said fell in 1999 to 584 million dollars, down by 133 million dollars compared to 1998, said the agency -- Albawaba.com
