Egyptian security forces fired tear gas at 500 students and arrested four from Al-Azhar University in Cairo Sunday, according to Reuters.
The students, who are supporters of the former Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi, organized a protest march Sunday near the site of the Rabaa al-Adaweya mosque, a former protest camp that was destroyed two months ago by the current security authorities.
The Reuters report quoted a security authority stating that "Rabaa Square is completely off-limits. Protesters are not allowed to move inside it." The students reportedly threw rocks at security authorities dispensing tear gas, and the riot police allegedly were throwing stones back at the students as well.
Elsewhere in Egypt Sunday, militants attacks a bus in North Sinai that was carrying members of the Central Security Forces (CSF), according to Aswat Masriya. The militants reportedly used RPG missiles and firearms to attack the bus and escaped the scene shortly thereafter. More than 100 police and security officials have been killed in similar attacks since the overthrow of Morsi in July.
