Economic Zones World's Gazeley, the leading providers of sustainable logistics and industrial space, announced that its recently built green development, G.Park Blue Planet at Chatterley Valley, designed by Gazeley partners, Chetwoods Architects, has been awarded the prestigious LEAF (Leading European Architects Forum) Best Sustainable Development Award for 2009.
Earlier this year the £50 million scheme was awarded the new BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) “Outstanding” classification (design stage) - the highest sustainable accolade available in property development.
The LEAF Awards honour architects and developers who have demonstrated excellence in their field, designing buildings that set the benchmark for the global design community. G.Park Blue Planet at Chatterley Valley won over other notable projects including the Kaden Klingbeil Architekten designed E3, European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Citi Data Centre, Frankfurt.
Located in North Staffordshire, UK, the 52 acre site features a variety of renewable and sustainable features including on-site renewable energy generation and energy saving fittings.
The project has a bio fuel micro power station that provides heat and power to the development and a thermal efficiency far exceeding current UK Building Regulations. The sustainable development has ETFE roof lights with inbuilt photovoltaic cells and is designed to maximise daylighting and feature solar power generation, energy efficient artificial illumination, eliminate night-time light pollution, making the buildings cheaper for Gazeley customers to operate and maintain.
Other sustainable features include rainwater harvesting for WCs, wet landscaping; southern facing solar attractor wall; airtight construction - 25% better than statutory requirements; use of timber from approved sustainable sources; exportation of power to nearby homes and the grid; kinetic plate technology to harvest energy from vehicles entering the site; green space for workers and the public including diverse planting to attract native flora and fauna. One hundred per cent of the development's energy and heat is supplied by renewable resources.
