e-TQM College Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs Awarded the Prestigious E. Jack Lancaster Medal

The American Society for Quality (ASQ) with a world-wide membership of over 100,000 people, honoured Professor Mohamed Zairi with its E. Jack Lancaster Medal on April, 30th 2007 at its 61st World Conference for Quality and Improvement in Orange County, Orlando, Florida USA.

Professor Mohamed Zairi, e-TQM College’s Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs, has been awarded this prestigious medal for his exceptional leadership, ongoing dedication and outstanding contributions to the International Fraternity of Quality Professionals through his international work in promoting quality in all the regions of the World. In addition to this, his emphasis on spreading quality knowledge in the Arab world through his devotion to e-TQM College has added to his being acknowledged for this prominent award.

“This is an exciting milestone; particularly that he is the first British Academician to have won this prestigious award and the 4th European to be nominated since the inception of the Medal Prize,” said Dr. Mansoor Al Awar, Vice President of e-TQM College.  “We are extremely proud that Professor Zairi has joined the world legends of quality for his efforts with e-TQM College to bring quality concepts to the Middle East region.” Dr. Mansoor added.

Professor Mohamed Zairi is the Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs and has been devoted to the College since its conception in 2002. In addition to his dedication to the College, he is also the Juran Chair in Total Quality Management (TQM), the Head of The European Centre for TQM and a Member of The International Academy for Quality. He was recently presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions in the field of TQM, Benchmarking and Performance Management, where he is recognized as a leading authority.


He has written over 300 papers and 20 books covering different aspects of management and quality. Recently his book Best Practice: Organisational Excellence which he co-authored with another Quality Specialist, John Whymark – has been translated into Arabic for the first time.

Professor Zairi lectures internationally and has acted as an adviser to many large organisations and various government bodies in different countries including the Middle East, Malaysia and Europe. He helped to launch the first European Best Practice Benchmarking Award in 1995.
