DWE Presents a New Session of the Emarati Leaders Gathering (ELG) Hosting Kuwaiti MP

Dr. Salwa Al Jassar discusses her women leadership study executed in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

Seeking to attract successful women leaders in the region, Dubai Women Establishment (DWE) presented a new session of the Emarati Leaders Gathering (ELG) featuring a presentation from Dr. Salwa Al Jassar, Kuwaiti MP, at Royal Ballroom in The Palace Hotel in Old Town, Burj Dubai on 29th June 2009.

The Gathering presented Dr. Al Jassar’s study, executed with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), under the title: “A Study of the Kuwaiti Women Nominated for Parliament in 2008”.  Dr. Al Jassar discussed her experiment that led to her obtaining a seat in the Kuwaiti Parliament, namely the experiment of Kuwaiti women nominated for Parliament in 2008.  Dr. Al Jassar also elaborated on their motives and the methods used to approach their supporters. The presentation also discussed the important role of both the public and private sectors in supporting the nominated, as well as the role of media (state or private).

“This new session came to provide a platform for female leaders in the UAE to communicate with successful female leaders in the region and to be acquainted with the best leadership practices in the Arab world”, said Mona Al Marri, Chairperson of the Board of DWE.

A number of UAE female leaders participated in the Gathering hosted by Aisha Al Suwaidi, Director of DWE’s Women Leadership Development Department. Dr. Jassar’s study concluded with suggestions and recommendations to assist and guide female nominees on how to reach Parliament in 2009 by providing further insight into the suggested mechanisms and programmes towards this goal.

During her visit to Dubai, Dr. Jassar also met with a number of the UAE Federal National Council members including Fatima Al Marri, Raweyyah Al Samahi, Khalid Bin Zayed and Sultan Saqr Al Swaidi, to share the results of the study to maximize its benefit in the UAE.

DWE launched the Emirati Leaders Gathering as a platform to exchange ideas and experiments within its strategy to support UAE working women and enhance their position to participate in the development of their society.
