The 2007 Dubai Terry Fox Run, under the patronage of HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, has raised more than AED 500,000 for cancer research in the UAE.

At a ‘thank you’ ceremony held a the Fairmont Hotel earlier this week, a cheque was presented to Professor S. George Carruthers, Dean, Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences, United Arab Emirates University in Al Ain by Rachael Birkwood from the Organizing Committee.

The presentation was made before an audience comprising representatives from a wide variety of organisations who had generously donated time and/or materials in order for the event to take place.

According to Chairman of the organising committee, Ara Sahakian, some six million Dirhams has been raised by the Dubai Terry Fox Run in its 14 year history.

“This has been made possible by the generosity of many schools, organisations and individuals in addition to the thousands who turn up on run day,” he said. “Not one item is paid for, allowing every single fil raised to be donated to cancer research fund.”

Certificates of appreciation were also presented to all contributors by Graham Rush, Head of Consulate and Senior Trade Commissioner for Canada and other members of the DFTR committee.
