Dubai Customs, one of the leading customs authorities in the Middle East region, has announced that it has organised 25 training courses for its 264 employees and 3 programs for its customers during the first quarter of 2005.
The programs which were jointly administered by the Dubai Customs in association with Dubai Police Academy, Dubai Institute for Human Resources Development (DIHRD) and Airport, Port and Terminal Security (APTS) Middle East and H.M. Revenue and Customs of United Kingdom, included procedures of clearing of the chemical products and derivatives, customs tariff and harmonised system, basic course for Customs Inspectors, in addition to courses in work attitudes and skills. An Aviation and Maritime Security conference was also organised as part of the training program. The three month basic course for Customs Inspectors, which was organised jointly with Dubai Police Academy, was evaluated the best program for the course content, knowledge disseminated and the number of participants.
Suad Mohammed Hassan, Head of Planning and Training Programmes Section, Dubai Customs said, “Dubai Customs places high premium on training, for increasing employee efficiency and productivity and achievement better quality of service. The training courses for 2005 has a budgetary allocation of AED 2 million and in the coming months we are aiming to conduct more such courses that are all encompassing and inclusive, from upper management to the office boys.”
“This year we have also introduced training in moulding attitudes and promoting ethics, through specialised courses in work attitudes and managing knowledge. Such courses increase a sense of belonging for the employees and the customers,” she added.
Specialised training programs on Customs Tariffs and Harmonised System was hosted for clients of Dubai Customs in March 2005. More than 80 employees of shipping agencies and maritime companies under went the course. Another course on the use of CSDT System was also organised.
“IT solutions used by Dubai Customs has gained wide acceptance from customers as it has eased procedures and made the working relationship faster and efficient. We are providing these courses on using the system in order that our customers and prospective clients may use our systems more effectively,” she concluded.
