Dubai Courts will be one of the sponsors of the United Arab Emirates University’s (UAEU) 17th Scientific Annual Conference for the Faculty of Law, which will be held under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education & Scientific Research, UAE, from May 19 to 20, 2009 in Abu Dhabi. The move is in line with Dubai Courts’ efforts to sponsor scientific conferences and similar events that support its strategic objectives towards the development and empowerment of human resources and the promotion of innovation and excellence in various areas.
Dubai Courts’ participation in the conference complements its initiatives aimed at promoting the UAE’s vision of creating a knowledge-based digital economy. This goal will be achieved through the development of human resources to cope with the rapid pace of advancement witnessed by the international economy. The building of economic and commercial foundations in accordance with an advanced technological system that supports the process of development and electronic transformation witnessed by the country will also be essential to achieving this objective.
H.E. Dr. Ahmed Bin Hazeem, Director General, Dubai Courts, said: “Our hosting and sponsoring this conference is an important step at the organisational level. As an organisation, our participation provides an opportunity for us to support the Faculty of Law, especially in scientific and academic research. We believe in the significance of higher educational institutions in the country, particularly in the area of law and the judiciary. These international conferences are ideal platforms for gaining insights on the
best international practices and the educational, professional and knowledge services applied within the participating countries. They broaden our experience and enhance cooperation and communication with regional and international educational institutions.”
“The UAE is one of the leading countries in the region in terms of implementing modern concepts such as electronic governance. The conference is being held at a time when we have witnessed the widespread patronage of eCommerce and eGovernance transactions throughout the world. We are sponsoring this conference based on our belief on the importance of such activities in promoting vital concepts to society, particularly among students. We shall continue to support the federal law so as to facilitate eCommerce transactions and promote the country’s strategy of building an integrated economy in accordance with a modern system capable of coping with international trends,” concluded Bin Hazeem.
The 17th Scientific Annual Conference is being organised under the title “Electronic Transactions” (eCommerce – eGovernment). It supports Federal Law No. 1 of 2006, which was issued in the UAE to facilitate eCommerce transactions and avoid legal gaps in the future by explaining Arab and foreign legislation in this area and encouraging the scientific study of law to determine its positive and negative aspects. It also serves as a forum to review several proposals and recommendations that contribute to the implementation of laws in the field of eCommerce.
The conference will host university professors from Gulf, Arab and foreign universities, experts in electronic transactions and specialists in eCommerce; and representatives from the Judicial and administrative authorities of Dubai Courts. A wide range of scientific research focusing on federal law and the comparative laws as well as the most important developments in the area of eCommerce transactions and their role in boosting trade and driving economic growth will be discussed. Participants will encourage private and public organisations to expand the scope of their electronic transactions and raise awareness among the nation’s students and researchers on the importance of eCommerce laws.
This year’s edition will focus on several main topics, including the assessment of the eCommerce legislations of various countries; eGovernment strategies; official electronic records; the responsibility of governments in controlling and protecting eCommerce activities; the role of eCommerce in the banking sector; and intellectual property laws, among others.
Dubai Courts is committed to adopting the latest technologies and the highest international standards in implementing legislative systems and regulations and sustainable practices and concepts that support its strategic plans. The organization aims to take a leading position in the judicial field while advancing economic and social development in Dubai and the entire UAE.
