Khalid Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Director General of Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), chaired a series of meetings over three days with the representatives of DTCM's overseas offices. These meetings followed another round of meetings that DTCM had over a three-week span with representatives of Dubai's tourism sector to discuss global and local market trends.

The meetings with DTCM's overseas office representatives discussed the challenges faced by the tourism sector around the world this year, including the issue of currency fluctuation, which has had an impact both on policies and plans being formulated in markets such as Dubai as well as on trends influencing these markets.

Further, the meetings covered the importance of drafting new plans that go line in line with current market conditions and correspond to the findings of studies conducted by international tourism-related organisations. The findings of such studies are crucial when formulating new promotional plans and strategies, especially to prepare tailored plans for countries depending on its specific geographical location.

During the meetings, the overseas office representatives also learnt about various tourism promotion strategies that DTCM plans to adopt in new promising markets, in light of the prevailing global economic conditions.

The meetings also featured workshops on the sidelines for the representatives of Dubai's tourism sector and DTCM's staff and overseas office representatives to discuss the matters in greater detail and arrive at workable recommendations that could contribute to strategy formulation.

During the meetings, the participants also came up with suggestions to raise Dubai's global appeal from a tourism point of view and analysed tourism-boosting initiatives adopted by other prime markets around the world, especially given the prevailing global economic climate.

The meetings were attended by Eyad Ali Abdul Rahman, DTCM Executive Director Media Relation Division and Business Development and Saleh Al Geziry, Director of Overseas Promotions and Inward Missions, DTCM, in addition to several DTCM Directors and executive Directors.
