Drydocks World highlighted achievements
at Seatrade Middle East Maritime

Drydocks World, the ship repair, conversion and building subsidiary of Dubai World, highlighted its rapidly expanding global profile at the Seatrade Middle East Maritime, one of the world’s largest maritime industry events, which was held at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from December 14 to16. Through its active participation in the conference and exhibition, the company aimed to reiterate its leading position in the region’s maritime industry.

The Drydocks World stand at the exhibition presented the company’s latest technological developments and the wide range of services it delivers to customers.

“It is with great pride that Drydocks World took  part in this year’s Seatrade Middle East Maritime because this has been a remarkable year for the company,” Hamed Bin Lahej, Chief Operating Officer of Drydocks World, said. “Our operations at home and abroad have earned us many prestigious honours, reiterating the level of excellence we have achieved. The conference and exhibition bring together top leaders in the global maritime industry. It is an internationally acknowledged event and Drydocks World sees this as the right platform to present our achievements. This will also be an opportunity for us to interact with other leading players in the industry and share ideas,” he noted.

The Seatrade Middle East Maritime exhibition and conference, held every two years in Dubai, is one of the world’s fastest-growing maritime events and now ranks among the industry’s Top 10. In 2006 over 6,000 trade participants from 63 countries attended the event.

The conference examined the implications of the remarkable surge in maritime activity in the Middle East and addressed the challenges the region’s maritime sector faces. The conference particularly focused on the growing momentum of cruise tourism in the region, port terminals and destinations and the state of the superyacht industry.

Drydocks World’s participation in Seatrade Middle East Maritime comes at a time when it is pursuing strategically paced expansion plans across the globe, particularly in South-East Asia’s key maritime hubs such as China, India and Vietnam.

The ship yard’s service excellence has again been recognised at both regional and international levels. Drydocks World - Dubai recently won British Safety Council’s globally respected Sword of Honour for the fifth successive year for its safety management system.

In 2008 it also won the Lloyd’s List Middle East Shipyard of the Year Award for the fourth successive year and the Ship Repair/Shipyard Award at the sixth annual Seatrade Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Awards. Drydocks World - Dubai’s safety standards were also honoured at the inaugural Facilities Management Middle East Awards earlier this year where it received the Health and Safety Initiative Award.
