Global marine terminal operator DP World stepped up its support to social welfare campaigns by helping to improve the services of the Thalassemia Centre in Dubai Health Authority. As part of the activities marking the UAE’s 37th National Day, the port operator provided the centre with new beds and much needed equipment.
The support to the centre is in line with DP World’s commitment to promote the campaign to control Thalassemia, a genetic blood disorder common among UAE nationals. The company’s local arm, DP World – UAE, also helped renovate the Thalassemia Centre’s entertainment area to make it more convenient for patients.
Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, DP World – UAE Region, said:
“We have always been committed to working for the well-being of our society. DP World - UAE sees the campaign to raise awareness of Thalassemia as a way of connecting with our local community as part of our corporate social responsibility and as a project that makes a very real difference to people’s lives. It is a project we embrace wholeheartedly. We appreciate the valuable services provided by Thalassemia Centre to help those suffering from the disease and we are pleased to help it improve the activities.”
Dr. Essam Dohair, Coordinator of Thalassemia Centre in Dubai Health Authority said:
“Thalassemia Centre is grateful for the timely support by DP World. The company has always been of great help to us in our campaign to control Thalassemia. Thalassemia Centre is engaged in a task that calls for relentless efforts and high technical and professional skills. By helping Thalassemia patients, we are healing a part of our society that is in pain and suffering. It is the constant support from caring corporations like DP World that boosts our confidence in dealing with the situation.”
DP World- UAE Region launched its long-term Thalassemia campaign early this year with regular programmes aimed at spreading awareness. The company marked the International Thalassemia Day on May 8 by dedicating the entire day for blood donations to help patients. Company employees and workers from various departments took part in the campaign, which was held in collaboration with Thalassemia Centre.
