At least 30 people were killed from car bombs in Baghdad and the Diyala province, AFP reported Wednesday.

Police and medical sources said the deadliest attack targeted the capital's eastern district of Baghdad al-Jadida, a predominantly Shiite area where 19 were killed and 43 wounded.

Most of the car bombs have been claimed by Daesh (ISIS), including the bomb in neighborhoods Baghdad al-Jadida and Zafaraniya, which killed four and wounded ten. The extremists said the targets were Shiite militiamen.

Another explosion hit a police and army checkpoint in Tarmiya north of Baghdad, police said.

In the eastern province of Diyala, the town of Mandali was hit by a car bomb that killed at least four. Iraqi forces in January said Diyala had been "liberated" by Daesh.
