Daily: Iran should abandon talks with EU trio

An Iranian daily said on Tuesday that instead of major EU trio (Britain, Germany and France), Tehran should hold talks on its nuclear program with the EU High Representative for a Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana, as "he speaks on behalf of the 25-member bloc." Criticizing the 22-month long negotiation, the Iran Daily said "It was not a dialogue, but monologue that the three powers wanted in line with the past colonial attitude of we talk, you listen."

The English-language paper also backed the recent comments of Iran's new Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), Ali Larijani, who has said in Vienna that Tehran should negotiate on its nuclear program with the governing board of the UN nuclear watchdog and with the EU as a whole.

Calling Larijani's comments "A step in the right direction," the editorial said "The EU should adopt a more pragmatic approach to the negotiations that could lead to win-win situation for both sides instead of issuing ultimatums and threats as done by the three EU governments."
