Daesh has reportedly executed nearly three dozen fellow militants in Iraq’s embattled northern province of Nineveh.
A local source, requesting anonymity, said Daesh killed 35 of its members by firing squad at the Ghazlani military camp south of Mosul, located some 248 miles north of the capital, Baghdad, on Sunday, after accusing them of conspiracy against the group, al-Sumaria television network reported.
The report came only a day after Daesh shot and killed a dozen other members in the village of al-Hadar, situated 75 miles south of Mosul. The slain militants had reportedly been accused of escaping clashes with Iraqi government forces in Iraq’s western province of Anbar.
On January 26, Jabbar al-Mamouri, a commander of the pro-government Popular Mobilization units, said Daesh had killed four militant commanders along with three other members of the group by firing squad in Hawijah district, located about 175 miles north of the capital, Baghdad.
The northern and western parts of Iraq have been plagued by violence ever since Daesh began an offensive through Iraqi territory in June 2014.
Iraqi army soldiers and fighters from Popular Mobilization units are seeking to win back militant-held regions in joint operations.
