During the past few days visitors to GITEX 2006 have been flocking to the PlayStation stand within the Sony Hall, all eager to get a first look at the PlayStation3™ (PS3), which has taken the world by storm in the last two weeks.
Full product demonstrations were given to over 5,000 visitors in four dedicated booths - where eager consumers were given a full overview of the amazing power and multi-functionality of PS3 including; gaming demos, Blu-Ray™ movie previews, music and photo slide shows as well a glimpse of some future on-line features.
“In addition to highlighting why this is such an exceptional product, we also communicated a key underlying message to visitors,” said Tim Stokes, Sales & Marketing Director, PlayStation Division - Sony Gulf, “and that was that there are plenty of good reasons for customers to wait until PlayStation 3’s official arrival next March and not be tempted to buy a grey import.”
Stokes pointed out reasons such as the absence of local warranties, the incompatibility of Blu-ray movies available in this region, a high cost, plus the fact that unofficially imported PS3’s will not have been submitted for safety and compliance testing by the local Telecommunications Regulation Authorities. Finally and very importantly unofficially imported machines will not have access to the PLAYSTATION® Network.
Consumers were not deterred by a few months wait. Hassan Ahmed, Hamad Ali, Abbas Ali, Bader Abdulrahim, Muadh Yousif, all of whom were visiting from Saudi Arabia said they were very impressed by the demonstration.
“Would they wait for the official launch?
“Absolutely,” they all agreed. “The PlayStation team convinced us that it is in our best interests. We are just wishing the months by as quickly as possible!”
