Hernan Crespo, Parma's Argentine international striker, is set to join Italian rivals Lazio for a world record fee of $54m.

According to the Italian sports press, the clubs reached a verbal agreement on Monday over the transfer, which will involve Lazio paying $12m in cash and with Portugal's Sergio Conceicao and Argentinean Mathias Almeyda moving to Parma as makeweights in the deal.

Sergio Conceicao was signed from Portuguese club Porto for $8.8m last season and after fine performances for his country in the Euro 2000 finals, is currently valued at $18m.

Lazio have already lined up Dutch international Boudewijn Zenden, currently with Barcelona, as a replacement.

Crespo will be guaranteed an annual salary in the region of $3m, the papers claim - (AFP)
