Shoppers at Wafi enjoying the sales at Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) were treated to performances by a troop of clowns and cartoon entertainers from the international Fringe Festival.
And with retailers offering discounts of up to 75 per cent, there were plenty of reasons for cheer as visitors to the mall watched both the Interactive Clown Theatre and the Cartoon Show and Parade. Shoppers filled the seats at the mall’s main atrium stage and enjoyed the first day of the Fringe Festival acts.
Fringe Festivals are staged in many parts of the world, including Toronto, Montreal, Edinburgh, Shanghai, Melbourne and Dublin, to celebrate various forms of art and entertainment, including theatre, comedy, visual arts, dance, and music.
The audience got involved with Interactive Clown Theatre, which attracts enthusiastic participation by children and adults throughout the show. Stilt walkers and unicycle riders delivered colourful slapstick japes, to the amusement and often shock of both children and adults. The antics included attention seeking acrobatics and tricks that sometimes involved the clowns delving into the crowd for closer interaction.
Described as ‘hilarious’ by shoppers on the day, the Cartoon Show and Parade is a theatrical ‘edutainment’ show featuring colourful and playful personalities. Wacky characters like the hilarious Scottish sheep and penguins from the North Pole take you on an irreverent journey, with the plot rotating around the seasons in different corners of the world. The theme contrasts the weather and activities from around the world using narration, music and dance. At the end of each performance, the characters parade throughout the venue and engage in more fun with the public.
Mohammed Mujahid, who watched the performance, says: “My two girls loved the show and were clapping throughout. We had only came along to see if we could find any DSF bargains and were pleasantly surprised to see the shows on. The stilt walker is impressive and it’s really fun for the children to see the clowns fall over.”
Shajahan Unneen, Wafi Property’s General Manager, says: “The first performance brought in an impressive crowd and I’m sure the numbers will increase as word spreads about the Interactive Clown Theatre, Cartoon Show and Parade. It’s a real treat for children shopping at the mall with their parents. Of course we hope everyone also enjoys the huge discounts on offer from some of the world’s most top designer brands here at Wafi.”
So the stage is set for the clowns to continue drawing shoppers to Wafi during DSF to see the Interactive Clown Theatre and Cartoon Shows, performing daily in 50 minute slots at the purpose-built theatre in the mall’s main atrium daily 6-10pm until February 21, 2010.
With over 350 stores Wafi is the 2008 winner of Best Shopping Mall, Best Restaurant, Best New Hotel, Best Spa and Best Independent Boutique and boasts one of Dubai’s largest souks, world-class shopping and fine dining in the heart of Dubai.
