The organisers of Intersec, the Middle East’s largest Commercial Security, Police & Homeland Security, Fire, Safety & Health event set for Dubai on 21 – 23 January, have confirmed that the UAE Ministry of Interior’s Dubai Department of Civil Defence will be presenting live demonstrations of their emergency rescue and fire fighting skills on the first day of the show. These demonstrations largely focus on the use of helicopters as a primary resource in fire fighting, casualty evacuation and rescue.
According to Chris Hudson, Director of Exhibitions of Intersec’s organising company Messe Frankfurt, “the department are one of the most long standing and keen supporters of the show. They’ll be putting on a number of demonstrations on 21 January at Intersec being staged at Dubai’s International Exhibition and Convention Centre.”
“For most residents and drivers in the UAE, we witness the challenges presented to the emergency services on a daily basis. With alarming numbers of road traffic accidents and the public’s apathy towards simple fire prevention and safety procedures, both Civil Defence and the Police authorities have their work cut out,” said Hudson.
The demonstrations themselves will be staged in the car park area in front of Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Center allowing some of the expected 16,000 visitors the chance to see the high standards of professionalism achieved in the UAE. The first demonstration will create a simulation of a fire in a multi-storey building, rescuing people by helicopter from a raised platform.
The department’s second demonstration in conjunction with Dubai Police shows how rescues can be made from serious road traffic accidents featuring a bus. Chris Hudson said “this seems an all too familiar scenario these days with the recent tragic incidents in Dubai, but the public need to be made aware of the excellent job the local authorities do in dealing with very difficult circumstances.”
In addition to the schedule of live demonstrations, Intersec Middle East holds an extensive 3-day conference programme 21-23 January featuring 42 expert speakers from around the world and within the Middle East region.
