Cisco Systems, has recently announced that it has deployed its Medical Grade Network Solutions at Al Salam International Hospital in Kuwait; further strengthening its presence in the Middle East region’s health services and technology sector.
The Medical Grade Network, implemented at the hospital is a suite of products, services and supporting materials aimed at offering healthcare providers an end-to-end foundation for the delivery of high-quality medical care for the 21st century. The set is based on an advanced infrastructure, designed to meet the specific needs of the health care industry and will help Al Salam International Hospital in reducing capital expenditure and management and service costs, and provide advanced patient care.
Commenting on the installation, Ghazi Atallah, General Manager Cisco Systems Middle East said, “Cisco has been investing a lot of resources in the Middle East, especially in Kuwait, to provide state-of-the art technology to customers in the healthcare sector and related verticals as part of our regional expansion strategy. The Medical Grade Network will help Al Salam International Hospital by reducing their total cost of ownership while increasing their return on investment.”
The Medical Grade Network delivers a resilient, protected, responsive and interactive health care environment for hospitals, physician groups and clinics, offering a defined growth path to create an integrated health care enterprise. Cisco’s technology platform for mission critical data, voice, and video applications enables hospital staff to reduce the number of communication devices they need to carry, provides access to decision support applications when required and reduces management and operational costs.
Dr. Adnan A. Al Edan, Director General, Al Salam Hospital Company, said, “Quality of patient care and provision of health care is now dependent on the use of advanced technologies and tools. Ensuring quality care for our patients is the main objective of Al Salam International Hospital. Cisco’s Medical Grade Network has proved to be the right solution for us as it provides a secure 24-hour availability network and a full range of healthcare applications to provide end-to-end connectivity. In addition, this network facilitates flexibility in operations as it is easily scalable.”
The network uses high bandwidth core routing and switching infrastructure, plus key supporting technologies such as integrated security, wireless, storage networking, and Internet protocol (IP) communications to create a highly secure and responsive environment for patient data, medical history and key hospital applications.
“The solution provides the hospital with a converged network, preventing over-investment in IT, as it is a universal infrastructure that can be scaled as per business requirements. Moreover, the risk of costly downtime is minimised through the network’s ability to intelligently protect itself from viruses and intrusions. The solution will help Al Salam International Hospital achieve measurable service improvements and financial gains,” added Atallah.
The Cisco Medical Grade Network uses intelligence to sort information and integrates all the vital technology into a converged infrastructure. It connects people and information in real time regardless of location or device. Another important feature of the network is that it self-monitors, self-defends and self-repairs to provide continuous 24- hour uptime, throughout the year. The project was implemented by Universe Computers.
“We are certain that our advanced solution, backed by the services of Cisco’s certified partners in Kuwait, will assist Al Salam International Hospital in achieving its goals and continue providing high quality care to its patients,” concluded Atallah.
