Superstar Celine Dion is so popular in China that the country
requested help from the Canadian government to persuade her to
perform there.
The superstar played one concert in Hong Kong before retiring to
start a family last year.
Newly-released documents reveal that China formally asked
Canadian Heritage minister Sheila Copps for help in persuading Miss Dion to tour the mainland during the tour.
According to the documents, Mrs. Copps instructed her staff to do
all they could to "push the tour forward," but even she could not
pull the right strings.
The minister was asked to use her influence during a visit to
Shanghai, where she attended the opening of China's first IMAX
cinema – WENN.
