Carpet and Arts Oasis announces promotions for DSF 2009

Move aims to make carpet masterpieces affordable to more customers

Aiming to offer the best option during the Dubai Shopping Festival 2009, the Carpet and Arts Oasis, organised by Dubai Customs, has announce special promotions on the displayed pieces, making them affordable to a larger number of consumers.

Khaled Al Mouazen, Deputy Chairman of Carpet and Arts Oasis Committee, said that neither the exhibition nor the promotion aim to make commercial gains. The main objective of the Carpet and Arts Oasis is to reaffirm Dubai’s leading position in hand-woven carpet trading, which has huge potential for further growth. This major feature of DSF is helping spread knowledge and awareness among visitors, especially those seeking to possess handmade carpets and valuable pieces of art, but lack the expertise in making the right selection.

Al Mouazen also said that thanks to similar offers, sales of carpets and rugs at the Oasis will increase by 20 to 25 per cent this year  compared to the previous years and expected the total sales value to reach over Dhs110 million by the end of the exhibition on February 6, 2009. This is mainly due to the fact that the UAE has become the prime destination for international carpet, furniture and interior design professionals.

Since its launch in 1996, the Carpet and Arts Oasis has steadily increased its annual sales at an average of 25 per cent, thus confirming its position as one of the world’s most important carpet exhibitions.

Carpets of different shapes, sizes, types and designs form the main component of interior decoration in homes. The top three participants at the exhibition are Iran, Pakistan and Turkey. Iranian handmade carpets are generally seen as the most popular and the best in quality in spite of them being the highest priced, while Pakistan comes second on the list and Turkey third.

Al Mouazen added: “Carpet Oasis has undoubtedly become one of the biggest events for carpet trade in the Middle East region, and is advancing towards becoming the biggest carpet show worldwide.”

Over 71 exhibitors are displaying more than 150,000 carpets at the Oasis, which covers a massive 12,000 square metres at the West Hall of the Dubai International Airport Exhibition Center.

The organisers have arranged live presentations and workshops for visitors on carpet weaving, including tutorials on colours and fabrics to create unique personalised carpets.
