Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar announces the addition of several new faculty members for the Spring 2007 semester. Joining the university are Bill Brown, Ph.D., professor; Starling Hunter, Ph.D., visiting teaching professor; Aziz Lookman, Ph.D., assistant professor; and Majd Sakr, Ph.D., faculty member.
● Bill Brown has been a professor of biological sciences at Carnegie Mellon University for 33 years.
In addition to teaching, he is the co-director of the joint MD/ Ph.D. program between Carnegie Mellon and the University of Pittsburgh. In Qatar, Brown is teaching modern biology and biological science seminar.
● Starling Hunter has worked as a professor at Sloan School of Management at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and American University of Sharjah. He is teaching classes in organizational behavior in Qatar.
● Aziz Lookman comes to Doha from a post as an assistant professor of finance in the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. He is teaching corporate finance and investment analysis to students in Doha.
● Majd Sakr joins Carnegie Mellon University from the American University of Science and Technology in Beirut, Lebanon where he was an assistant professor and acting chairperson of the Computer Science and Computer and Communications Engineering Department. This semester he is teaching computer architecture, computer networking and system-level software development.
Additionally, several faculty members who have previously taught courses at Carnegie Mellon Qatar have returned to teach for the Spring 2007 term. They are: Brett Browning, Ph.D., systems scientist; Steve Calabrese, assistant professor; Bernardine Dias, Ph.D., research scientist; Patrick McGinnis, lecturer; and Mark Stehlik, Ph.D., teaching professor. Also new to campus is Nikki Krysak, reference librarian.
