A car bomb exploded outside a shopping center in a suburb south of Cape Town on Friday, injuring at least one person, police said.
"The bomb was in a vehicle and it went off at 12:30 p.m. (1030 GMT)," police spokesman Etienne Terblanche told AFP.
"So far we know that one person was injured but we don't know how seriously," Captain Terblanche said.
The car bomb went off outside a restaurant at the exclusive Constantia Village shopping center some 20 kilometers south of Cape Town, he said.
Cape Town has in the past three years been the scene of some 100 bomb blasts, which police have privately linked to a radical Muslim vigilante group operating in the city. Nobody has however been convicted for the bombings.
In the last blast, a bomb was detonated in a dustbin at Cape Town International Airport. Nobody was injured, but other blasts have maimed and killed city residents and tourists -- CAPE TOWN (AFP)
