Leading academics and industry professionals from around the world will debate key issues concerning sustainable development through culture and innovation during a major conference taking place in Dubai.

The British University in Dubai, the Middle East’s first research-based postgraduate university, is the lead organiser for the international joint conference ‘Construction Culture, Innovation and Management,’ which is being held for the first time in the UAE.

The conference combines the CIB Working Commission on Culture in Construction (W112) International Conference and the 4th International Conference on Innovation in Architecture Engineering and Construction running from 26-29 November at Dubai Knowledge Village Conference Centre.

The integration of the two conferences will provide an opportunity for researchers and professionals involved in the commissioning, planning, design, construction and management of the built environment to meet, exchange ideas and learn of new innovations, research and practices.

Dubai is seen as a dynamic environment and an appropriate venue to hold the conference due to its multi-cultural society and the phenomenal boom in construction currently taking place in the Emirate and across the UAE.

Among the themes covered during the conference will be: Integrating sustainability into business processes, cultural change to embrace sustainability, working with diversity and multi-culturalism, and innovation in design.

“We are very pleased to have so many key individuals from all over the world concerned with sustainable development attending the Conference. It is the first major conference of this kind that the University has been involved in organising and further demonstrates BUiD’s capacity, as a research-based university, to play a leading role in driving forward research in the UAE,” said Dr Mohammed Dulaimi, Chair of the Conference and Senior Lecturer at the British University in Dubai.

“BUiD provides innovative programmes and research to support the rapid development of the Middle East and this major conference will offer fresh concepts for us to analyse and develop,” he added.

Speakers at the conference will include Sultan Ahmad bin Sulayem, CEO of real estate developer Nakheel, and Professor Geert Hofstede from the University of Maastricht, Netherlands.

Scheduled as part of the conference are site visits to the cutting-edge architectural developments of the Palm Jumeirah and the Ski Slope at the Mall of the Emirates.

Through its five-sector specific Institutes BUiD conducts research and offers a range of full-time and part-time Masters degree programmes in association with leading, research-based UK universities.
