British Prime Minister Tony Blair has expressed the hope that progress to the Cyprus problem can be achieved on the basis of the so-called "election" result in the Turkish-occupied northern part of Cyprus, the official Cyprus News Agency reported on Wednesday.
Replying to questions in the House of Commons put forward by parliament member Roger Gale during a European Council debate, the British leader noted, however, that if a solution is not possible for a united Cyprus to enter the European Union, then "it is in no sense a barrier to accession".
