British grandfather Karl Andree, who was facing 350 lashes in Saudi Arabia and has been in jail there for a year, will be released from custody within a week, the Foreign Secretary has announced.
His son told ITV News that his family is thrilled at the news.
As Political Correspondent Libby Wiener reports, the wheels of British diplomacy can move swiftly under public pressure.
The UK's "open and frank" relationship with Saudi Arabia was instrumental in securing the release of British grandfather Karl Andree from prison, the Foreign Secretary has said.
Speaking from the Middle East, Philip Hammond said that the strong relationship between the two countries had allowed them to discuss concerns openly.
Mr Andre, 74, fell foul of Saudi Arabia's strict no-alcohol laws last year and spent over 12 months in jail and was facing 350 lashes for his crime.
