Global logistics solutions provider, Aramex, received the ‘Environment Award’ at the 20th Annual Awards Ceremony of the British International Freight Association (BIFA) at an event held in London.

Aramex is the first winner of the BIFA Environment trophy, a category introduced in 2008. The award recognizes Aramex’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability as the company actively identifies and invests in eco-friendly practices.

The Panel of Judges congratulated Aramex on its outstanding achievement, commenting: “A successful business is always admired. However, what should be respected is a company that is leading the way and showing its commitment to our environment. We are all responsible for looking after our planet and Aramex has shown that we can balance running a successful business whilst working towards reducing the company’s carbon footprint.”

Camille Nasrallah, Aramex CEO - Europe, said: “We believe it is vital to apply green business solutions to help preserve our environment. This commitment to sustainability, which is an integral part of Aramex's corporate culture and values, has helped Aramex become a well-known leader in eco-friendly practices. Our environmental stance serves as a catalyst for Aramex to eventually gain both strategically and financially.”

In 2008, Aramex became the first logistics company in the Middle East to use hybrid vehicles, along with a number of eco-initiatives such as introducing biodegradable pouches. Those initiatives demonstrate the company’s dedication to pursuing its goal of becoming the industry’s first carbon neutral service provider.

As part of a comprehensive strategy outlined in its Corporate Sustainability Report, Aramex has set environmental targets, including the reduction of carbon emissions per shipment by 50 percent.  Aramex also reinvests one percent of its annual profits towards sustainable projects and business activities including those which reduce the company’s long-term impact on the environment.

Aramex was among 34 finalists vying for 9 category trophies at the BIFA Freight Service Awards. The awards are recognized as the most prestigious within the freight forwarding and logistics industry, as they encourage and identify high professional standards and special achievements.
