A further 370 soldiers are being dispatched to Iraq, British Defense Secretary Geoff Hoon on Thursday told MPs.
They will supplement the 8,000-plus UK troops already based around the southern city of Basra.
Hoon said the troops would "carry out force protection work, including the construction of additional physical defenses in British bases".
The aim was to "reduce the threat posed by the kind of attacks we have seen in recent weeks."
According to Hoon, the changes were being made at the request of British commanders on the ground. (Albawaba.com)
