Russian bookstores are selling a book written by a Chechen fighter high on Moscow's wanted list, in which he calls for holy war, press reports said here Monday.

The book, which urges Muslim faithful to wage jihad against the enemies of Islam, is on sale in one of the capital's biggest bookstores, near the headquarters of the secret services, daily Izvestia said.

The book is written by Dagestani Bagavudin Magomedov, an advocate of Wahhabism, a strictly conservative movement within Islam. Wahhabism has been banned in Dagestan.

Magomedov is high on Interpol's wanted list, at Moscow's request.

The Russian Caucasus republic of Dagestan lies east of separatist Chechnya, where federal forces have been fighting rebels for over a year.
