Executive producer and headwriter of the Bold and the Beautiful Bradley Bell explained that the reason behind such an unprecedented ‘killing off’ of popular leading ladies is an attempt to get fans angry!
In an article in the New York Post, Bell said that he admits that it is unusual to “kill off such popular characters…But that’s why I’m doing it.”
“I’m hoping that (fans) get angry,” he explained, elaborating that in “life and in stories, there are things you like and things you don’t like.”
In the episode airing tonight on CBS, Macy (Bobbie Eakes) dies a horrible death in an aftermath of a car explosion, while, just three weeks ago, Becky (Marissa Tait), another much loved character, died of pancreatic cancer.
Two deaths in a row? Should we expect a third?, asked the NY post.
"You never know," said Bell, "no one is safe."
Bell explained Becky’s death by saying that "Becky had been a relatively insignificant, supporting character on the show," Bell says. "I decided to give her one final chapter.
The result: "we were flooded with mail. I had never seen anything like it. By the time this ‘insignificant, supporting character' left, she had turned herself into a leading character," said Bell.
As for Bobbie’s onscreen husband, Winsor Harmon (Thorne), he said that "when the cast heard Bobbie was going to be killed off, we couldn't believe it…But it’s a bold move," he added.
“It's going to cause a major conflict, it's going to get people mad, and it's going to pull in a tremendous amount of viewers,” predicted Winsor, according to NY post. "That's the main thing,” he added, “they're going to watch the damn show." Let’s hope he’s right!—albawaba.com.
