A blast ripped through a car in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, killing a Palestinian activist, witnesses said.

According to The AP, the incident took place in Rafah, on the Gaza-Egypt border.

The Palestinian, Yusuf Matar, 25, an activist in the Islamic Jihad, was taken to the Rafah hospital, where he died, doctors said.

In a leaflet distributed by the Islamic Jihad movement, it confirmed that Abu Matter was the commander of Al Quds Brigades, the military wing of the movement, and said that his car explosion was perpetrated by the Israeli forces.

“The assassination crime has been perpetrated by planting an explosive charge inside Abu Matter’s car, and it was detonated once he got into his car,” the leaflet said.

The assassination “proves for all those calling for Hudna ‘ceasefire’ that the Israeli occupying forces never perceive anything but the language of force,” the leaflet further wrote.
