AUC's School of Global Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) launched an executive education program titled, Strategic Planning and Performance Management for Public Organizations, in collaboration with the Dubai School of Government. The program is intended for senior officials in government ministries and public organizations involved in strategic planning and improving organizational performance. GAPP has an agreement with the International Executive Education Institute, IEEI, of the School of Business to support the management of GAPP executive education programs to leverage the resources and international partnerships of both schools.
Founding Dean of GAPP, Ambassador Nabil Fahmy, said "The School of Global Affairs and Public Policy's Executive Training Program strives to provide trainees from government, public sector, and civil society in Egypt, the surrounding regions and even internationally with the tools to optimally develop and implement policy decisions on numerous issues in the public domain. The programs are driven by demand from our constituencies as well as our commitment to bring forward new topics, trends, concepts and techniques that have evolved worldwide. In all cases our offerings will be inclusive, cross disciplinary and focused on providing skill sets that have been rigorously tested and can be quickly utilized by the participants."
Twenty-three senior officials from a variety of different ministries and public institutions joined the first round of the program that started on May 2010, including the Ministry of Social Solidarity, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Ministry of State for Family and Population, Leadership and Management Development Center and the Information and Decision Support Center. The first course on Strategic and Performance Management was conducted by Tarek Hatem, professor of management, School of Business, and Laila El Baradei, professor of public administration and associate dean of GAPP.
The GAPP Executive Education program will offer topics that provide organizations with innovative solutions in strategic areas, including management, governance, policy development, public management, and other specialized topics such as human rights and gender, environment and globalization. Moreover, according to Dr. Dina Wafa, Director of the executive education program in GAPP, the program will continue to expand in the coming period, "to offer customized executive programs to suit the needs of each public organization providing innovative solutions through a wide range of expertise in strategic areas."
"Interest in executive education continues to grow across government agencies and public institutions as they recognize the need to reinforce and reinvigorate leadership capacities within their organizations," said El Baradei. She added, "The executive education program developed by GAPP is considered an important opportunity the school offers to current practitioners in public organizations in partnership with leading institutions in the region and the world such as Lee Kuan Yew, Dubai School of Government, University of Monterey, among others. GAPP offers this program for the executive who wants to learn creative methods for addressing the challenges of the 21st century workplace while obtaining a prestigious certificate that will advance his or her career." In addition, GAPP offers two 18 credit post-graduate diplomas in Public Policy and in Public Administration, and a Master of Public Policy and Administration (MPPA).
