Assessment Committee of Sharjah Economic Excellence Award commences selection process for 2008 winners

The General Secretariat of the annual Sharjah Economic Excellence Award announced during a special meeting recently that it will apply internationally recognized best practices and standards in evaluating the performance of Sharjah-based businesses. This is pursuant to the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (SCCI) goal of encouraging establishments to enhance performance and practices by adopting global business standards and concepts.

The members of the Assessment Committee underwent a workshop organised by the General Secretariat at the SCCI headquarters recently to fully understand the criteria for the documentation and field evaluation that will be conducted to assess the award nominees. Specific tasks, subcommittee work schedules, field visits and an evaluation result deadline by the end of May were also announced by the General Secretariat during the workshop. Essa Salem, the management trainer and consultant, gave a detailed presentation on evaluation procedures and methodology as well as the complete assessment agenda.

“The main objective of the workshop was to educate the Assessment Committee on the tools, standards and technical details that will help ensure the best assessment of nominees. This will particularly be helpful for members who have joined the committee for the first time after accepting their duties in accordance with the standards and conditions of the General Secretariat,” said Nada Al Hajri, Sharjah Economic Excellence Award General Coordinator, Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

“The Assessment Committee will perform documentation and field evaluation for two months, after which they will announce the results and the winners of the award’s nine categories. These will be done by early June 2009 during the closing ceremony of the seventh edition of the Sharjah Economic Excellence Award,” added Al Hajri.
