The Arab Quality Assurance and Accreditation Network (ARQAANE) has announced that it will be holding its first annual conference entitled “Excellence in Business Education” from January 28-29, 2009, at Damascus University in Syria. The event is organized in cooperation with Damascus University and the Arab Association of the Faculties of Business Administration.
“This conference reflects ARQAANE’s commitment to the mission of promoting excellence in education and emphasizes the pivotal role of business education in enhancing competitiveness through preparing business leaders and a skilled labor force,” said Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, ARQAANE’s president and vice chairman of the UN Global Compact.
The conference will discuss the concepts of academic quality and excellence in business education. It will also concentrate on the critical role played by evaluation and accreditation systems in assuring the quality of education.
One of the conference’s session will be dedicated to the role of business schools in the communities in which they are based and the schools’ responsibility in developing the attitudes and behaviors of the future business leaders.
During this session, a special emphasis will be placed on Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), a UN-backed global initiative developed to promote corporate responsibility and sustainability in business education.
In addition, a specialized workshop will be held during the conference that will provide the participants with the latest international accreditation standards for business administration. The workshop’s attendees will also be trained on preparing self-evaluation reports requested by the accreditation agencies.
Speaking at the conference will be experts from distinguished Arab and international business schools who will share with the audience the best practices and latest trends in business education.
During the course of the conference, ARQAANE will launch a number of initiatives that aim at supporting the quality of business education in the Arab world, most notably, an annual award for the best local business case.
The Arab Quality Assurance and Accreditation Network is a non-for-profit organization established in Belgium 2007 with the fundamental objective of raising the quality of education in the Arab world through providing accreditation services and by spreading knowledge and exchanging expertise and good practices in the field of education quality.
