Arab League chief Amr Moussa urged the international community on Friday to pressure Israel to halt its targeted killings of Palestinian leaders.

"The Arab League, which condemns on principle political assassinations, everywhere and in all its forms, calls for their immediate halt," he said in a statement received by AFP.

The League secretary general called for the international community "to act rapidly and in concrete terms to prevent Israel from persisting with the policy of assassinations.”

The appeal came after Israel assassinated three Fateh members in Bethlehem on Thursday, and three Hamas leaders in two days last week.

Avenging the August assassination of its secretary general Abu Ali Mustapha, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) on Wednesday assassinated Israeli cabinet minister Rehavam Zeevi.

According to the Palestinian tally of “targeted killing,” 72 leaders and activist lost their lives in the officially adopted Israeli policy.

Moussa warned that Israel's "military escalation" after the killing of Zeevi was creating "a circle of tit-for-tat violence.”

"The continuation of the (Israeli) occupation and halt to diplomatic efforts will inevitably lead to more tension and violence,” he said.

Palestinian President Yasser Arafat told foreign diplomats on Thursday night that he was personally targeted by a similar hit, along with a number of his top aides, according to Abu Dhabi satellite channel – Albawaba.com
