The annual contemporary urbanism training module organised for the next generation Emirati urban planners by the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council (UPC), the agency responsible for the future of Emirate’s urban environment, has recently been completed. The occasion was marked by the organisation of a ceremony that witnessed the awarding of certificates to the participating Emirati urban planners.
Stressing on the need for organising the Urbanism training, H.E Falah Al Ahbabi, General Manager Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council said, “The completion of the urbanism training is not just a representation of our proven development platforms, but is in reality a vital step towards preparing our next generation Emirati planners towards developing Abu Dhabi as the sustainable Arab Capital under the Vision 2030 guiding principles”.
The training was organised to provide talented UPC Emirati planners, who are responsible for shaping and developing the Emirate’s settlements, with an advanced introduction to the principles and practices of effective contemporary urbanism.

The training, which was organised in three separate sessions, witnessed the presence of renowned and expert urban planners such as Dr Larry Beasley, the recent Co-Director of Planning for the City Of Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada who is also largely credited with the transformation of its downtown core along New Urbanism lines, known as Vancouverism or "The Vancouver Model".

“Similar to the technical training programmes, the UPC management stresses on the need for the implementation of Personal Development Plans (PDP’s) for its UAE national planners, which will address their behavioural and technical needs that will ensure the development of a high quality UPC Emirati Planner in the near and distant future”, said Yousef Al Junaibi, Human Resource Manager, Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council.
