For Mr Jay Patel, an Indian expatriate and resident of Abu Dhabi, April 30 is a day for twin celebration. It is not only his wife’s birthday but his parents’ wedding anniversary too.
This year, the double celebration turned all the more lucky as he became the first winner at the Festival@The Dubai Mall’s daily draws for a cash prize of AED 10,000. Mr Patel and family were visiting Dubai for a day, especially to check out the shopping deals in The Dubai Mall.
“It is an auspicious day for us and it is customary that I buy gifts for my parents and wife,” said Mr Patel, who was accompanied by his wife Rakhi, their 18-month-old son Jimit, and his parents Mrs & Mr Dinesh Patel. “We bought gifts in The Dubai Mall and got the coupons to enter the raffle. We never thought we would get any other special reward from this. It is awesome.”
“We were first reluctant to fill out the coupons the shop keepers were giving us, but the sales lady convinced us by saying we may be one of the lucky winners. And we were. It was great to get the phone call to tell us we had won AED 10,000,” said Mr Jay Patel.
Four other lucky winners also won AED 10,000 each on the opening day of the festival. Shoppers who spend an aggregate AED 500 at the mall, including retail and F&B outlets, over the month-long festival, will get raffle coupons to participate in the draw.
In addition to five daily draws for AED 10,000 each, every Saturday a cash prize of AED 100,000 will be presented to one lucky winner with an added AED 50,000 if he or she is present in the mall when the draw is held. The grand draw for AED 1 million will be held at the end of the festival. In all, a total cash prize of AED 3.1 million will be offered for shoppers during the 30-day festival.
Festival@The Dubai Mall will continue through to May 29, 2009, and features several innovative events including a Bid 2 Win auction, Grand Bentley raffle draw and live entertainment.
