The personal representative of U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan, Steffan de Mistura, said Tuesday the U.N. chief would attend the Arab summit due to be held in Beirut in March.
De Mistura told reporters after meeting Lebanese Foreign Minister Mahmoud Hammoud that Annan has accepted an invitation to the summit sent by Lebanese President Emile Lahoud.
"This is a historical summit and its importance increases by the fact that it is held in Beirut," De Mistura said.
Sources close to Lebanese president Emile Lahoud said the president predicted that the Arab summit would offer an opportunity to reaffirm Arab solidarity in confronting existing challenges. (Albawaba.com)
