The American Medical Federation (AMF) has taken practical steps to launch a regional branch in Jordan following a visit by its officials to public and private hospitals and a meeting with the health minister, reported the Jordan Times newspaper Wednesday.
"The visits that we conducted were very successful. We were supposed to dedicate only two days to the visits, but it was extended to five days," said Ayman Nashashibi, president of the AMF.
Nashashibi hailed the state of medical facilities in the Kingdom, saying its status would tempt international organizations to set anchor in Amman, said the paper.
"We were extremely impressed with what we have seen of hospitals in both the private and public sector, expertise, manpower and healthcare," said Nashashibi, who added that what really interested the delegation was the open heart surgeries performed on a regular basis in the Kingdom with very successful results.
The AMF is a top global firm specialized in identifying, developing and promoting the standards of the quality of continuing medical education (CME).
On Monday, Nashashibi met health minister Tareq Suheimat to discuss the proper implementation of the CME program in Jordan.
"It was an objective meeting, and the minister showed great support for constructing the AMF's headquarters for the Eastern Mediterranean in Jordan," he noted.
A final decision on the location of the regional AMF headquarters will be taken when Nashashibi returns to the US and meets with the AMF board of directors, said the paper.
"The decision is not totally ours to make, we have to convince the board of directors," explained Nashashibi.
The CME is offered by the American Academy for Continuing Education (ABCE) which aims enhancing the quality and effectiveness of health care by fostering excellence and professionalism in the practice of medicine - Albawaba.com
