American Express plans to introduce several new services in the UAE for individuals and companies, reported the Gulf News on Monday.

The company's strategy includes a strong emphasis on Internet-based services, with an interactive website providing information to go online within a month, and substantially growing its merchants network, regional manager, Rasoul Hujair, was quoted as saying .

"Our increasing shift on growing our UAE side of the operations is in recognition of the fact that the market environment here is very positive," he said.

"Over 95 percent of the merchants here have POS terminals, a figure unlikely to be matched anywhere else in the region,” he added.

The company, which has a big operation based in Bahrain, has expanded its premises and functional ambit in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. It has also doubled its merchant network in the past year, the paper said – Albawaba.com
