Swedish international Niclas Alexandersson passed his Everton medical on Wednesday and immediately jetted out to join up with his new teammates at their Italian training camp.
The 28-year-old, who moved from relegated Sheffield Wednesday for 2.5 million pounds ($4 million), had to wait overnight for the results of tests before officially becoming Everton’s fifth contract of the summer.
He will be joined at the training camp in Tuscany by Ghana international Alex Nyarko, last week's 4.5 million ($7.2 million) signing from UEFA Cup semifinalists Lens, while former England playmaker Paul Gascoigne's arrival from Middlesbrough has grabbed all the attention.
Now Everton will try to complete the 2.5 million ($4 million) move of Danish international defender Thomas Gravesen from Bundesliga outfit Hamburg, a deal they hope can be finalized by the weekend.
Smith will also try to sign a striker to cover for Kevin Campbell, who misses the first month of the season following his knee operation.
The first chance fans will get to see Everton's new-look squad, including Gascoigne, at Scottish Premier Division side Dundee United next Tuesday in their opening friendly.
Nyarko, 26, will not be able to play because he is still waiting for a work permit and it could be three weeks before the former Basle and Karlsruhe midfielder is allowed to enter the country - (AFP)
