City of Arabia, Al Bawadi and Dubai Metro are just some of the myriad of mega-projects that were under scrutiny of the experts during Meed’s Major Project Developments in Dubai 2007 conference held in Park Hyatt Dubai today (March 11-12 2007).

“The UAE, and Dubai in particular, is undergoing major developments and expansion amounting to billions of dollars of investment,” said Edmund O’Sullivan, conference chairman and editorial director of MEED.

“Current figures show that within the real estate sector alone, projects worth a minimum of $45 billion are currently under construction in Dubai, with another $45 billion in the development stages,” he added.

Arif Mubarak, CEO of Al Bawadi, Dubai’s major new hospitality and tourism development by Tatweer, said “There’s a predicted dramatic increase in regional tourism, with Dubai leading in this field.”

“Many new projects are being developed to cater to the expected influx of tourists, but there must be a better focus on setting timescales and outlining the business opportunities to be able to establish tourism-dependent industries.

“At Tatweer, we introduced the master plan of the new AED40 billion Al Bawadi project which is set to be one of the pioneering global tourist destinations for all those looking to tour the world in one place,” he added.
According to O’Sullivan, Major Project Developments in Dubai 2007 conference is the ideal event for the very latest news on the emirate’s mega-projects and to know ‘What comes next?’.

“With project-specific presentations including up-to-the-minute information on Dubai’s remarkable expansion, in addition to discussions about the current challenges threatening the pace of growth and the best solutions to sustain the thriving project-scene, this conference was a big success and attended by top industry executives,” he concluded.

In addition to Arif Mubarak, CEO, Bawadi – Tatweer; Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director General, Dubai World Trade Centre; Tim Askew, Managing Director, Atkins Middle East, and many other leading industry players.
Other participants included top leading organisations as Dubai Properties, Dubai World Trade Centre, Standard Chartered Bank, Parsons Brinckerhoff, EC Harris International, CSHK Dubai Contracting, amongst others.
