Air France Concorde flights are to remain grounded because of continuing uncertainty over the chain of events leading up to a Concorde crash in Paris on July 25th killing 113 people, the transport ministry said Friday.
The statement was issued after French experts met to review the latest evidence from the inquiry into the cause of the crash.
Air France's Concorde flights have been suspended since the crash.
"If the scenario seems to be becoming clearer, for example as concerns the origin of the destruction of the tyre, uncertainties persist on the chronology of the chain of events as well as on particular specific elements such as the source and size of the fire," the statement said.
"In these conditions, the ministry, in agreement with the operator (of the planes), is maintaining the suspension of Concorde flights."
The French Accident Investigation Bureau (BEA) said Thursday that a 40-centimeter (16-inch) strip of metal on the tarmac used by the supersonic aircraft was probably what ripped open one of its tyres on the runway, in its first possible scenario to explain the crash - PARIS (AFP)
