Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Friday the Iranian nation has repeatedly made enemies regretful. President Ahmadinejad made the remark while speaking to reporters after he cast his vote in the 4th Assembly of Experts and 3rd local councils elections and the second by-elections of the 7th Majlis.
Praising the "very wise" nation of Iran, he said, "Although the Iranian nation has been always targeted by spiteful people, it has always remained honorable and powerful."
In response to a question on attempts by enemies to make the Iranian nation disappointed so that they would not turn out at the elections, he said, "Despite all these efforts, Iran and the Iranian nation are resolved and firm. "The Iranian nation will pay no attention to these (the enemies') efforts because today it is in a position to guide the human society intellectually."
Ahmadinejad stressed, "Enemies of the Iranian nation prevent growth and development of mankind and (establishment of) peace and justice in the world. They only have two options ahead, either they should be reformed or they should go.
"Of course, we hope they give up their grudge against the Iranian people because the great nation of Iran has made its big decision and is moving forward in the path of grandeur and greatness with might," he said.
According to IRNA, the president stressed that enemies cannot create any obstacles in the way of Iranians.
Friday's elections are the first test for Ahmadinejad since his election victory last year. Iran is choosing a new Assembly of Experts, the body that selects and supervises the supreme leader, and voting for municipal councils in elections that will provide a crucial reading of the political temperature.
