Dubai for Acumen, the volunteer arm of Acumen Fund, a global not-for-profit that uses a venture approach to build sustainable businesses that provide healthcare, water, housing, energy and agriculture services, yesterday organised a photography show aimed at raising awareness on social entrepreneurship and venture philanthropy around the region. The latest edition of the 'Dignity' series of exhibitions, previously held by Acumen in New York, Chicago and San Francisco, the show featured works by eminent photographers including Ami Vitale, the American photojournalist famous for her work with National Geographic, and Palani Mohan, the Indian born Australian photographer.

Over 200 attendees enjoyed the world-class photographs, hors d'oeuvres and drinks served up at the DIFC's Capital Club, as well as valuable insights into the important role social entrepreneurship plays in sustainable development around the world. Guest keynote speaker Muna Al Gurg, Vice Chairman of the Young Arab Leaders (YAL), spoke on her passion for philanthropy and how the sustainable model of Acumen is what drew her to get involved with the organization.. YAL is an independent not-for-profit organization founded in 2004 and focused on education and entrepreneurship for young Arabs.

Acumen Fund's activities continue to offer hope for the poor in India, Pakistan and East Africa. Started in 2001, Acumen Fund has invested over US$48 million in over 45 enterprises whose services have reached over 30 million people.

The event was held in collaboration with Nuru Project, which aims to leverage photography as an agent for social change in the developing world.
