Top product test center awards coveted “Certified Green” stamp to 3Com’s 4800G, 5500-EI, and 7906E switches
3Com Corporation (Nasdaq: COMS), has announced that its 4800G, 5500-EI and 7906E ethernet switches consume up to 38 per cent less power than the industry average, based on extensive tests performed by network consultancy Miercom. The switch models were awarded Miercom’s “Certified Green” stamp for proving that they provide enterprises with effective and environmentally-sound networking and data center solutions.
Miercom determined that the 3Com Switch 4800G 48-port consumes 38 per cent less power at maximum throughput (108.5 watts) than the industry average of 176.3 watts, and that the 3Com Switch 7906E delivers annual costs savings of 24 per cent under the industry average. The switch models were evaluated for environmental impact by examining their individual components, features and capabilities. The tests focused on power consumption and efficiency, with a full audit conducted to gauge overall product-specific environmental impact.
Mahmoud El-Ali, General Manager, 3Com – Middle East & North Africa, said: “Key MENA markets such as the UAE are incorporating more aggressive conservation strategies into their business agendas. It has thus become imperative for the IT sector to create more eco-friendly solutions, but without sacrificing performance. 3Com in particular is focusing on greener networking models especially as the region’s IT infrastructure continues to expand remarkably despite the global crisis.”
Miercom also reported that the 3Com switches minimized travel costs through centralized remote administration; significantly reduced cooling costs due to minimal to zero air conditioning requirements; and provided enhanced security by using access control lists and queuing as well as preventing Denial Of Service attacks.
3Com has been receiving various accolades for its efficient and eco-friendly networking solutions. Independent research firm In-Stat in fact recently referred to 3Com solutions as being up to 60 percent more energy efficient than other brands in its research paper entitled “Green Networking Equipment: Who Leads and Who Lags.”
