Tanmia, the National Human Resource Development and Employment Authority, recently organised a graduation ceremony for 36 UAE National jobseekers who completed the ‘Mehnaty’ training programme, which is designed to help young Nationals develop knowledge and skills specific to the retail sector. The graduation ceremony was held at the Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management in Dubai.
The ‘Mehnaty’ training programme graduates are now ideally positioned to take advantage of the UAE’s major retail sector growth, as a recent Tanmia study showed that the growth in shopping malls in the country is expected to increase by 190 per cent by 2010. The study also revealed that during this period retail spending is expected to account for 25 per cent of the UAE’s Gross Domestic Product.
Feddah Lootah, Acting General Manager of Tanmia said, “The ‘Mehnaty’ programme adequately prepares National jobseekers to efficiently handle various job functions in the retail sector, especially sales and customer service. This programme has been very popular among National jobseekers registered with Tanmia, particularly because the UAE’s retail sector has been growing at an impressive rate and young Nationals are keen to make the most of the career opportunities in this domain.”
The ‘Mehnaty’ training programme was launched by Tanmia, Emirates National Development Program (ENDP) in association with the Emirates Academy of Hospitality to prepare Nationals to enter the retail sector. Participants of the two-month program undergo theoretical and practical training to experience the real-life work environment. Topics covered include retail skills, communication skills, work ethics and other skills required to sell a particular type of product.
