Nawras, a Qtel Group company, was thrilled to be named Brand of the Year 2010 at a gala event held at the Crowne Plaza Muscat. The announcement was made during an exciting award ceremony hosted by Superbrands Oman and attended by CEOs and company representatives from the most well-known names in the country.

In the first such event to be held in the Sultanate, the line-up of the impressive Superbrands Oman title included several leading Omani and international brands that had been painstakingly evaluated for the title. Recognised as Superbrands, these brands feature in the 2009 -2010 Superbrands book.

Accepting the award, Chief Executive Officer, Ross Cormack said, "Being chosen as a Superbrand is a fantastic honour and achievement for the whole Nawras family and we are thrilled and grateful. For Nawras to be named as Brand of the Year is a great recognition of the dedication and commitment shown by all our people over the last five years, as we have aimed to provide the highest levels of pleasingly different service for our customers.

"Our customers can see that the performance of their choice of provider for mobile, fixed and internet services is highly rated and endorsed by the people. We are honoured to receive this title as we continue our mission to be the communication provider and employer of choice in Oman."

Cormack expressed his gratitude to Mike English, Director of Superbrands Middle East and to Bikram Sehgal, both for his role as Superbrands Brand Liaison Director and General Manager of ADINC. He also praised the event organisers, ADINC, for the splendid way the process as well as the evening had been orchestrated, recognising the tremendous amount of work that had gone into making everything run smoothly for the Superbrands selection and awards ceremony.

The evening celebrated the success of Oman's strongest brands including Bank Sohar, Al Shabiba, Sohar Oil and Oman Oil and several others.

A Superbrand is defined as offering customers significant emotional and, or, physical advantages over its competitors. The title of Superbrand is voted on by The Superbrands Council and as a Council Member, Ross Cormack was naturally not allowed to place a vote for any company in his own industry, in accordance with the Council's rules.

An eminent group of independent, voluntary experts from a diverse range of backgrounds make up the Superbrands Council in the Sultanate led by Bikram Sehgal. The prestigious Superbrands programme is constantly expanding and currently running in over 80 countries worldwide. Oman was included for the first time in 2009.

This prestigious title follows hot on the heels of Nawras being named Customer Service provider of the Year and means Nawras customers can once again be proud to see their choice of communications services provider being critically evaluated and awarded top honours. Nawras has received a number of other awards in 2010 including 'Excellence in Branding and Marketing', 'Asia's Best Employer Brand Award' and Leader in Telecommunications'.

Nawras was also recently honoured by the Ministry of Manpower for having over 90% Omanisation in its customer friendly mobile operations and further appreciation was shown by the Al Noor Institute who thanked Nawras for support given during 2010.
