Palestinian actor and director Qassem Al Istanboli has presented a new play titled “The Black House” at the UNESCO Theater in Beirut. The play is part of the theater festival that is launched by the Lebanese Ministry of Culture for schools and colleges.
The play is an adaptation of the play “La Casa De Bernarda Alba” originally written by Spanish writer Frederico Lorca and is considered to be the best play script about suppression of women.
The play features the suffering and suppression of Palestinian and Iraqi women and their agonies they face in their occupied lands. It is about five women seeking freedom from the tyranny and cruelty they experience in the home of the dictator.
Istanboli stressed that women must be empowered to be able to face violence and repression imposed on them by all walks of life.
