'Pinkwashing' the Israeli occupation

Why are LGBT equality organizations joining forces with Israel advocacy groups?  

The widespread celebration of the recent US Supreme Court decision on gay marriage provides a great opportunity to think about how governments and their institutions get politically rebranded.  These days, same-sex marriage is firmly considered a liberal or progressive issue.  Images of gay couples getting married stir sentiments about liberation, freedom and equality. Marriage, sexual freedom and equality are now wound together in the cultural imagination. This is a very big shift.

On edge over Syria, Kurdish issues, Turkey tense after horrific bombing  

Islamic State appears to have stepped up its war with the Kurds by bombing a meeting of socialist activists as they gathered in the town of Suruç. The incident is not only a terrible blow to the Kurds, but threatens further unrest in Turkey, where a failure to act over Islamic State has already caused significant tension.

The Israeli government is good at lots of things. Evicting Palestinians from their homes, demolishing their property, and expropriating their lands top this list of talents.

Palestinians are also good at many things. Resisting Israeli occupation and fighting for their rights is, without fail, one of their most abiding and inspiring skills.
